Last Summer Road-trip

With all of my traveling this summer, it has finally come to an end. Last week I spent some time relaxing in San Diego, before going to the US Open (surfing that is) in Huntington and "camping" in Santa Barbara.

The Gaslamp always treats me right. We got dinner at an amazing Thai place, with private booths, and waterfall walls.

Two containers of mango sorbet for 5 dollars! Great deal, great taste, great way to cool off in the BLAZING heat.

Brynne and I found this sweet couch to enjoy the sunset and celebrate my birthday. Our drinks look as good together as us.

in shock

I can't believe it. A terrible thing has happened in the course of this evening. Tust, in it's fragile needy form, has been tossed in the wind like a greaser's cigarette but out his black TBird window.

Man v. Wild. . fake??

Many conversations of mine in the last weeks have revolved around the genius of this show. A ladder in the jungle?! Shoelaces to climb a tree?! Eating. .what?! What about the camera men? What about the floods? How?

New York Post has published an article stating that someone from the show has revealed it as set up.

All I can say, is that I hope this man is not telling the truth, and that Bear can hold my cigarette trust once again.

And as my brother just said. "i hope bear grylls challenges the journalist to a survival challenge, and proves him wrong"

orange chicken

Tonight I fell asleep while my friends watched a movie. Recently I have realized that this is not a good idea because when I wake up at 2 am, I am not usually tired anymore. And I miss out on fun. Now it is 3:55 AM. So unnecessary. Anyway, instead of sleeping, I will post some photographs of a photo-shoot I did yesterday. Sandra and I had two amazing models, so after hours of shooting, eating orange chicken, and climbing mountains (hills), these are just a few of my favorites.

en route

paused

Train ride from Irvine to San Luis Obispo. I think trains beat airplanes because you can see things going by you out the window. It's nice sometimes to see the world pass at a distance with no need to interact. It's also nice to have a power outlet when the trip is 7 hours long.

I talked to the man in the cafe car for a while over a fresh fruit cup while the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. He was about 45 years old, and mildly disheveled. When I asked about accidents he informed me that they are unfortunately frequent (one had caused my train to be two and a half hours late that day, and there had been another only a few weeks earlier). Maybe trains aren't always better.

After I went back to my seat (with all of my things because I was afraid to leave them behind), I watched the Office and listened to some music in the emptying train. The sun had set, and with so few people left, the train was quiet. A guy in his early 30's came and sat in the row across from me. He had gotten a personal size bottle of wine from the cafe car and proceeded to drink and listen to music. A glass and a half later I heard him singing with his headphones on, and another later I could head his music. Fortunately it was Third Eye Blind, and the end of my ride.

Interesting day. Arriving in SLO was great. I'll put up more pics soon.

a beautiful family

untitled

I used to envy my sister. Her effortless style, equally of clothes and life, caused a distaste for my own disjointed series of events I would call my life. I was 15. I didn't know myself. I certainly didn't understand myself. My sister did. She was engaged, living on her own, just graduated from college with a group of friends you would find on a sitcom. The kind you envy. Her deep brown hair flowed in perfect form around her delicate face, which was done just right with makeup. Such a far cry from my too-long blond hair, that sat bored next to my overdone face.

Jump to now, six years later. Coldplay is serenading my rye toast, egg over easy breakfast in my sister's kitchen. Now more than ever, I admire, rather than envy, my beautiful older sister. Her life still appears as a movie from my cross country view. Her friends who all got married together are now all having their first children. Her house has blended her taste and her husbands into a young and modern abode, like you would find in the Domino decorating mag (see my links). Hundreds of great vinyls are lined on shelves next to a mod print of my sister's role model, Audrey Hepburn. Pink and brown stripes in the baby's room show the elegance of my sister, and the hand painted sparrow silhouettes with matching guitar on the wall display my brother-in-law's artwork. At this time in my life, however, I feel hope rather than envy, knowing my life is okay where it is, and headed in an equally beautiful direction. Certainly different than hers, but wonderful for me. Being with her makes me excited for my own life, rather than wanting another's. That is beautiful.
